Weekly News for March 4th

Breaking News - Nike and Apple sitting in a tree…. Years after their first “hook-up” Nike and Apple are at it again, talking with major gym equipment manufacturers to make their cardio equipment Nike + iPod compatible. That way, health club members can easily track workouts on cardio equipment like treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes and stair climbers. Personally, I don’t want my iPod storing my “lack of” equipment use…

News - MacBook Air Soars! Have you been trying to get your hands on a MacBook Air? Well, good luck! This lightweight, no DVD drive, expensive silver work of art is flying off the shelves. According to NY area Apple stores, the new Air has been sold out every day since its inaugural flight January 29th. Wow! That is surprising since there has been tons of criticism about the non-removable battery, small hard drive space and lack of a DVD drive. Even Steve Wozniak was quoted as saying: “I don’t think it’s going to be a hit.”

So Cool - Are you looking for a sweet tablet computer? Axiotron just upgraded the “modbook” line, bumping the specs to 2.1 or 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo configs with 120 or 160GB drives. The price on the base model stays the same ($2,290), but the new 2.4GHz config will run you $2,480. Touch screen, camera, built in GPS… what more could you want?

Gadget of the week - It’s good to be a Freeloader! I love natural power and here is another great alternative to that old wall socket.
Freeloader is an advanced portable charging system that can power any hand held device anywhere, anytime. Freeloader takes power from its solar panels or via a supplied charge cable that plugs into a computers’ USB. Once charged, Freeloaders internal battery can power an iPod for 18 hours, a mobile phone for 44 hours, PSP for 2.5 hours, a PDA for 22 hours and much, much more. And for those female “geeks” out there it is available in HOT pink. Now that is power on the go!

Solar chargers aren’t exactly the most sexy accessories to have in the gadget world, but as they become more and more popular, chances are the aesthetics will improve along with its efficiency. Enter the Freeloader 8.0 that features 11 adapters - capable of providing an additional 44 hours for a cell phone, 22 hours for a PDA, 18 hours for audio playback on an iPod, and 2.5 hours for a PSP. This Freeloader is rather small since it is a wee bit larger than an iPhone despite packing all that juice. If you’re a frequent traveler, what kind of chargers do you carry around?
